Boston, MA, March 2nd, 2015 | CFGI sponsored and led the 2014 CFO Controller Summit, organized by CFO Magazine. The CFO Controller Summit is one of aseries of conferences that CFO Magazine produces that provides practical knowledge, tactical information, and networking opportunities for senior finance executives. The conference was held on December 3rd and 4th, 2014 in Boston, MA and was attended by leading finance professionals. CFGI, a company with CFGI CFO Controller Summit 2014decades of financial leadership serving CFOs for both public and private companies, sponsored the conference and led a panel discussion on today’s most critical finance challenges. Shane Caiazzo, Co-Founder and Partner at CFGI, assembled a panel with industry experts to discuss the role of finance leaders in adding to enterprise value of an organization.

The roles and responsibilities of the Financial Controller are constantly evolving. The CFO Controller Summit brought together premier finance control professionals for a thought-leading and innovative event that brought to light many current concerns for the office of the Controller. Through keynote presentations and in-depth panel discussions, the CFO Controller Summit delved deeper into timely topics including the changing role of the Controller, fostering leadership in the financial function, and FASB and IASB revenue recognition.

Caiazzo moderated the CFGI panel titled ‘Enterprise Value Through Finance Leadership’. As auditors are constrained by the PCAOB and other regulatory requirements continue to make the role of a Corporate Controller more challenging, this topic offered relevant insights into successful finance leadership. Caiazzo was joined by panel speakers and industry leaders Robert Meyer, Corporate Controller at American Tower, John Granara, CAO at Ameresco, Justin Renz, CFO at Karyopham Therapeutics, and Mike Rubino, CFO at Digital Lumens. During the panel, these experts discussed how they, as finance leaders across different industries, view the objectives of being value-add business partners while still balancing the requirements of regulatory compliance. “There were many great views represented in the panel,” said Rubino. “Opinions and advice from public and private companies alike were voiced, making for a constructive and insightful discussion.”

Caiazzo reflects on the summit, “The panel was a great opportunity to discuss the challenges facing Controllers and emerging CFO’s. We have seen environments where finance is at the table adding strategic value to their companies, but we have also seen plenty of situations where finance is not viewed as a true partner with the business. This panel reviewed current challenges and discussed ways to improve the partnership between Finance and the organization.” View video highlights from the CFGI-led panel discussion here.
