CFGI is Proud to Announce the Sponsorship of the 2015 American Heart Association Heart Challenge

Boston, August 20, 2015 | CFGI is proud to announce the sponsorship of the 2015 American Heart Association (AHA) Heart Challenge, an event founded by Boston-area CFO, Mike Rubino. The Heart Challenge is the AHA’s adventurous 5K obstacle trail run of over 10 obstacles positioned throughout the course. Waves of participants will navigate the course of obstacles which will include a cargo net crawl, incline walls, balance beams, staircases, and other challenges. This year’s Heart Challenge will take place at Prowse Farm in Canton, Massachusetts on October 3, 2015.

Mike Rubino, CFO of a Boston-area company and Chairman of the AHA Heart Challenge, survived a heart-related scare in 2012 and has been committed to making the Heart Challenge a successful fundraising event. During the summer of 2012, and weeks into a boot camp program, the program instructor found Rubino slouched over and unresponsive after a routine warm-up jog. When the instructor approached, she realized Rubino was not breathing and had a very faint pulse. The instructor took immediate action and started CPR while ordering others to call 911. Rubino underwent continued CPR for eight minutes prior to the arrival of EMS and was then transported to the hospital where he later learned he had experienced cardiac arrest.

After recovering from his experience, Rubino attributes the instructor’s quick response and CPR as crucial life-saving actions and has become heavily involved with the AHA’s mission to spread heart-healthy awareness. Rubino states, “The AHA website is full of information about heart and stroke health, and has been a great tool to me – my go-to place. I continue to leverage its resources on heart health education, ways to improve my lifestyle, and how to be heart-healthy. Please support the AHA – your hard work and financial support is much appreciated and supports a great cause.”

Although several weeks of preparation and fundraising remain prior to the 2015 Heart Challenge, CFGI’s team will be working with the AHA to help support its goals of raising $100,000 in contributions and having over 1,250 participants complete the challenge. Ultimately, the efforts of all organizations and participants involved in the Heart Challenge will play a critical role in the support of the AHA’s clinical, education, and research programs in the Greater Boston area. CFGI Partner, Shane Caiazzo says, “The entire CFGI team is excited to again partner with the American Heart Association and participate in this year’s Heart Challenge. Our team is proud to be a part of such a worthwhile cause and play an active role in further building community awareness around the organization.”
