John is the Tax Financial Services practice leader at CFGI.
John has over 25 years of experience providing federal and state income tax consulting and compliance services to U.S and foreign banks, brokers, hedge funds, mortgage banks and private equity firms; including addressing issues related to the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) and the Common Reporting Standard (CRS). He has extensive Big 4 and global accounting firm experience as a collaborative leader and trusted business and tax advisor to public and private financial services clients.
John’s prior experience also includes 7 years as Grant Thornton’s national managing partner for its financial institution’s industry practice, responsible for industry related tax, assurance and consulting matters. Prior to this role, John was part of Grant Thornton’s National Tax office, specializing in financial institution related issues for 10 years.
John has advised key clients on technical tax and accounting issues including corporate mergers, acquisitions and reorganizations, accounting for income taxes (ASC 740) and implementation of tax strategies.
John has worked with the IRS national office on a number private letter ruling requests and has assisted clients with the changing of their tax accounting methods to maximize tax benefits.
John graduated from Marquette University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and from the University of Chicago with a Master of Business Administration in Financial Management. He is a licensed CPA in the District of Columbia, Virginia and Illinois, and is a member of the AICPA.
