Joe Barone is a Partner and co-leader of the firm’s Risk Advisory practice. With significant experience in enterprise risk management, internal audit, Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance, financial reporting controls, and business process improvement, Joe Barone helps CFGI clients influence positive change across the ever-changing governance, risk, and compliance GRC landscape.
Joe Barone brings to CFGI more than two decades of GRC experience working with leading global companies to create best-in-class internal audit, risk management and compliance functions. Most recently, Joe Barone was a Director in PwC’s Internal Audit, Compliance, and Risk Management Solutions practice where he provided strategic internal audit sourcing, SOX compliance, and staff augmentation services across various global clients in the technology, media, hospitality, healthcare, consumer products/retail, and manufacturing industries.
Prior to PwC, Joe Barone served as the Global Head of Internal Audit at Hilton Worldwide where he transformed their internal audit function in preparation for their 2013 initial public offering. During his tenure at Hilton, Joe Barone built a global internal audit team with representatives in Northern Virginia, London, Dubai, and Singapore and established a risk-based audit methodology to address the company’s rapidly evolving governance, risk, and compliance needs. Prior to Hilton, Joe Barone served in a number of key audit and finance roles at RCN Corporation, XO Communications, AOL Time Warner, and EY, where he began his career as a financial and IT auditor.
Joe Barone has a Bachelor of Business in Accountancy and Computer Applications from the University of Notre Dame and a Master of Business Administration in International Business and Marketing from The George Washington University. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a Six Sigma Green Belt.
