Mr. Ortega is a Managing Director with CFGI, providing accounting, consulting, and interim management services to clients in a variety of industries. Prior to joining CFGI, Mr. Ortega worked as a Senior Manager in the Audit practice at Deloitte & Touche (D&T).
Since joining CFGI, Mr. Ortega has assisted several clients in various industries with services that include audit readiness and support, financial reporting including drafting first-time audited financial statements for startup technology company, preparation of disclosures for SEC forms 10-Q and 10-K, as well as IFRS complaint disclosures. Additionally, Mr. Ortega has assisted clients evaluate complex accounting matters and draft technical accounting memoranda relating to leases (ASC 842) – including built-to-suit arrangements, lease modifications, consolidation – VIE analysis, and discounted cash flow sensitivity analysis. Mr. Ortega has gained exposure to both public and private clients in a variety of industries including Media and Entertainment, Technology (EGC), and Consumer Products and Industrial, including a multinational advertising and public relation company.
With ten years of Big Four public accounting, Mr. Ortega led audits of financial statements for multinational companies in accordance with PCAOB and AICPA standards, including the filing of a confidential initial and amended Form S-1 in the New York AdTech market. He was responsible for managing 30K+ hours and facilitating all aspects of financial statement audits and audits of internal controls over financial reporting for $1M to $5B+ global and domestic public and private companies. He managed, supervised, and reviewed the work of senior auditors and staff on several domestic and international (Europe, South America, and Asia) engagement teams of ten to twenty professionals, simultaneously. Mr. Ortega managed $500K-$5.0M project budgets with responsibility for profit/loss, staffing and scheduling, monitoring team’s progress, fee analysis, and billing, and creating an effective and efficient team environment. He’s led periodic client status meetings and was responsible for communicating engagement status to client senior management including the CFO, CAO, and Controller in a timely manner.
Mr. Ortega gained a significant amount of exposure to complex accounting areas including revenue recognition (including 606 and EITF 99-19), goodwill, capitalized software, and stock compensation. Additionally, Mr. Ortega was selected as a member of the Office of the CEO (“OCEO”) team to work with Deloitte’s largest and most complex audit engagements to provide marketplace perspectives, remove barriers to delivery of the highest client service, share leading practices, and provide targeted leadership development.
Lastly, Mr. Ortega served as Corporate Senior Accountant for EmblemHealth where he managed the monthly accounting for two large subsidiary medical groups, including analyses for various reserves and claims receivable while working closely with the Actuary, Capitation, and Provider Relation departments. He prepared quarterly financial position packages which were discussed at quarterly meetings with various department heads.
Mr. Ortega graduated with honors from the University at Albany SUNY with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. Mr. Ortega is a CPA in the State of New York, and a member of the AICPA and NYSSCPA.
