Michael Cook is a Managing Director in CFGI’s Accounting Advisory practice, where he provides accounting and financial consulting services to public and private companies across the life sciences, biotechnology, insurance, consumer products, and technology sectors. With more than 12 years of experience, Michael works closely with finance and accounting leaders to address complex accounting, reporting, compliance, and operational challenges throughout all stages of growth.
At CFGI, Michael has focused primarily on serving biotechnology and technology clients, leading a wide range of technical accounting and finance transformation initiatives. His experience includes ASC 606 revenue recognition and ASC 842 lease accounting implementations, SOX 404 compliance programs, SEC reporting support, interim finance and accounting leadership roles, and financial reporting process improvements. He partners with organizations to strengthen internal controls, enhance financial reporting capabilities, and navigate evolving regulatory requirements.
Prior to joining CFGI, Michael was an Audit Manager with KPMG in Hartford, where he was responsible for all aspects of AICPA and PCAOB financial statement audits for public and private health insurance and property and casualty insurance companies. In that role, he advised clients on risk identification, internal control design, audit procedures, and compliance requirements, while leading audit teams through complex financial reporting and regulatory matters.
Michael’s expertise spans revenue recognition, lease accounting, SOX compliance, financial close and reporting processes, financial statement preparation, audit readiness, and interim accounting support. He has extensive experience supporting life sciences organizations, including matters related to clinical accruals, and brings a practical, hands-on approach to helping clients build scalable accounting and finance functions.
Michael holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Connecticut and is a Certified Public Accountant in Connecticut.
