Stephen Gwizdak

Managing Director

Stephen Gwizdak is a Managing Director in CFGI’s Accounting Advisory practice, bringing more than 13 years of experience providing accounting and financial consulting services to clients across the insurance and broader financial services sectors. He specializes in advising insurance carriers, agencies, and managing general agencies on complex accounting, financial reporting, operational, and regulatory matters.

At CFGI, Stephen primarily serves financial services clients and has led a wide range of engagements involving interim finance leadership, process and control transformation, financial reporting, and system implementations. His experience includes creating, documenting, and enhancing processes and controls related to investments, claims, reserves, premiums, reinsurance, taxes, commissions, and regulatory reporting. Stephen has also led implementations of general ledger, subledger, and investment accounting systems and regularly coordinates with external auditors, state insurance department examiners, and claims professionals.

Stephen brings deep technical accounting expertise across U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting, and insurance accounting, including ASC 944, CECL, revenue recognition, business combinations, fair value measurements, stock-based compensation, consolidations, debt and equity financings, and IPO readiness. In addition to technical accounting advisory, he has supported mergers and acquisitions, carve-out transactions, SOX compliance initiatives, financial statement preparation, audit readiness, due diligence efforts, and financial planning and analysis activities.

Prior to joining CFGI, Stephen was a Manager with KPMG in Hartford, where he led integrated GAAP audits for multinational Fortune 100 insurance organizations and statutory audits for insurance subsidiaries. His work focused on personal and commercial lines reserves, reinsurance portfolios, premiums, claims, commissions, premium taxes, goodwill, and intangible assets. He also evaluated the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls to support compliance with SOX 404 and the NAIC Model Audit Rule.

Stephen’s industry experience spans property and casualty insurance, life and health insurance, managing general agencies, insurance agencies, and employee benefit plans. He has extensive experience working with financial and regulatory reporting requirements and has supported clients through accounting transformations, system implementations, and operational improvement initiatives.

Stephen holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Siena College and a Master of Science in Accounting with a concentration in Fraud and Forensic Accounting from Western New England University. He is a Certified Public Accountant in Connecticut and is based in Stamford, Connecticut.
